This recording captures the final performance of our magical two-week European Tour in the summer of 2012. With festival gigs in Vienne, Montreux, Toulon, Modena and finally the Umbria Jazz Festival in Perugia, this tour was truly an amazing experience for all of us. I cannot possibly express the depth of my gratitude to the Roosevelt Jazz parents, nor my tremendous pride in the students of the Roosevelt Jazz Band. You all know how I feel... you are the best! Chris McCarthy Wins the Monterey Jazz Festival's 2012 Big Band Composition Competition and Gerald Wilson Award

Chris McCarthy, pianist in the 2011-2012 Roosevelt Jazz Band, has won the 2012 Monterey Jazz Festival Big Band Composition Competition. He will have the honor of having his winning composition, "Something Small," performed by the Next Generation Jazz Orchestra at the Monterey Jazz Festival's Jimmy Lyons Stage in the Arena this coming September. He will also receive the Gerald Wilson Award and a cash prize.

Roosevelt Jazz Band Wins 2nd Place in the 2012 Essentially Ellington Festival

Roosevelt Jazz Band students returned from the May 4-6 Ellington competition with a host of recognitions for outstanding players. Kudos also to our Seattle-area fellow finalists, Ballard and Mountlake High School Jazz Bands, who both played swinging sets.
